A rebel group known as the Lords Resistance Army (LRA) has been active in northern Uganda and southern Sudan for 19 years and is responsible for a large number of murders and abductions. More than 1.7 million people are currently living in camps for internally displaced people in northern Uganda. On 13 October 2005, the International Criminal Court (ICC) unsealed its first arrest warrants. The warrants are for five LRA Commanders and follow investigations into the long-running conflict in northern Uganda. Tension in northern Uganda has subsequently increased, amidst fears of LRA reprisals."The UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office.
