Other countries say...

"Travel in all parts of Sudan, particularly outside the capital city of Khartoum, is potentially hazardous. The Government of Sudan and southern rebel forces signed a peace agreement in January 2005 aimed at ending a 20-year civil war, and a Government of National Unity was formed in September 2005. Although fighting has subsided, areas of insecurity still persist in the southern Sudanese provinces of Upper Nile, Blue Nile, and Bahr El Ghazal. " US State Department

"A rebel group known as the Lords Resistance Army (LRA), which has been responsible for a large number of murders and abductions in northern Uganda, also has a presence inside southern Sudan. Since 2002, the Government of Sudan has been co-operating with the Government of Uganda by allowing the Ugandan People’s Defence Force into Sudanese territory in pursuit of LRA fighters. On 13 October 2005, the International Criminal Court (ICC) issued its first arrest warrants for LRA members.Tensions have subsequently increased, and the LRA have been blamed for a number of fatal attacks and robberies, including on humanitarian agencies." UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office

Sudan says...

"The economy has responded positively to these reform measures despite the sharp slow down of foreign financial aid that was timed with outside political pressures and hostilities. Such adverse developments have not deterred the Government from pursuing rigorous macroeconomic reform and elicit self-reliance policies. In fact such policies were smoothly reflected in the country's ability to contrive socio-economic resilience and regain economic health.". Ministry of Finance. Briefing 2002.
