"The Prime Minister, head of governemnt, chief Ephraim Inoni granted audience Thursday 22 June 2006 at 16h30mn at the star building to the President and Chief Operating Officer of Coca Cola, Africa, Mr. Alexander B. CUMMINGS, who was at the head of a six-person delegation.

"After his 20-minute discussion with the PM, he disclosed to the media that they had come to congratulate the Head of Government for Cameroon's attainment of the completion point of the HIPC initiative, and equally for his support to business enterprises.

"On another note, Mr. Cummings, who said his company is requesting that the government remove the direct excise tax on Coca Cola, that is 25% beginning fiscal year 2007.

"He was pleased with the frank and rich discussions he had with the head of government, with the promise that his company's request would be considered for the next fiscal year.

"Mr. Alexander Cummings revealed that Coca Cola sales are increasing throughout Africa, except for Cameroon where busisness has witnessed a slowing down process due to high excise taxes, which obliged the company to operate within a thinner profit margin just to keep her customers.
