Some Information About Kampala, Uganda There are plenty of resources about Uganda, but here are some of the best. Uganda Tourist Information has some quick, readable information for the traveller to Uganda. You can't do much better than visit this website. The information is accurate and up-to-date and includes almost everything you need to know. We're from this place as well, so we can tell you its true. Uganda is the freindliest place on earth, and with the best of climates. It's more or less 26 degrees all year round, the people are freindly and the police are armed! (Seriously, while other African cities can be full of undesirables, Uganda executed a law some years back that made it illegal for people to be "idle and disorderly" (yep, you can be arrested for doing nothing), and packed all the street thugs off to Luzira. Hence, Kampala is one of the safest cities in Africa to be in. I\ve been mugged more times in London than Kampala.) Ugandan music is amongst the most diverse in the world and draws in influences world wide. From hip-hop to traditional, look in this fantastic site to see what you can expect to be hearing in Uganda when you visit. Traditional and contemporary music from Uganda is here at Music Uganda.

Kampala Nightlife We like nightlife. And there's not much better nightlife in East Africa than Kampala. If you like your nightlife high-class then check out Club Silk, Industrial Area, Kampala. Club Silk has three sections, Club Silk, Silk Royale and the newest part which is The Silk Lounge with a multi-screen system and movie nights. There is music and a theme for each part of the club, the place is always packed with gorgeous ladies and men. If you are in Kampala for a night in Club Silk is a must. If on the other hand you like lots of pool, a mob of good looking women, slightly cheaper beer then get down to Capital Pub in Kabalagla. The place is a massive timber-framed building with a tree growing right through the middle of one of the bars, and is packed at weekends and late evening. Locals call is "Kinnya" (pronounced "Chin-ya"), meaning "the hole", and its popular with expats as well. Al's Bar has a reputatation as one of the craziest bars in the world, opening often throughout the night and into the morning. You can often find human wreckage dispersed around the surrouding areas at 8 a.m. The place has a couple of pool tables, fantastic rock music and snacks and food available into the night. Its also the place to come if you're a white man and you want to see drunk women in sexy dresses fighting over you. Lucy's Bar, Muyenga Road, Kabalagala has to be mentioned because Lucy is ever so nice, although the place doesn't have a sign. It's a small bar opposite Capital Pub next to the road which leads into the ghetto. The bar is popular with policemen and the occasional politician. The bar is open wide and well ventilated and the toilet is a basic long-drop at the back. (Once I decided to rid the area of weed using the mechanism of supply and demand when drunk. I bought UShs20,000 worth of the stuff in the ghetto and stuffed it in the toilet there. I don't reccomend you go looking for it. The toilet has also been the receptacle for photographs and personal letters when I had a row with the girlfreind. I've put a lot in that toilet!) But its also one of the ONLY places to get a cold beer in Kabalagala when the electricity has been cut off and is also the cheapest beer around. Excellent if you want a break from the madness over the road. And fancy some madness with a toilet. |
