Holiday or Visiting Freinds

You will have to convince the visa issuing authority that you intend to come back and that you can support yourself when you are there. This means that you should have a LOT of money, and a bank account in your name to back it up. This should hold a fairly large sum like the equivalent of £2,000 British pounds, and have been there for some months. You also need a job and a letter from your employer confirming that you have a job, that you are entitled to leave for the period you are travelling, and that the job will be there when you get back.

Things that will work in your favour will be if you have travelled abroad before (and have the passport stamps to prove it), and returned, that you haven't been deported or otherwise removed from another country.

There are, however, some unwritten rules which will play a part. If you appear to be of "low socio-economic status" the visa authority will probably assume you don't intend to come back and will refuse you. If you've been refused lots of times before, this is also not good news. If they suspect you will apply for refugee status, then this is also grounds for refusal. It's a very tricky thing to prove what you "intend" to do, but that's the way the system works.

Your friends or relatives can act as a sponsor for you to come. They will have to provide evidence of their housing and income and will have to write an invitation letter that you take to the embassy or consulate. This letter often does not make much difference, but it can help if your case is borderline.
